Cellular Failover for Schools and Organizations
Reliable Phone System Failover for Schools, Government, and Organizations
When Your Internet Goes Down, Your Phones Need to Stay Up
Ambit Solutions provides phone system failover built around your specific environment — keeping critical communication available when your primary connection fails.
Cloud-Hosted Systems
Your cloud PBX stays online — but if your building loses internet, your phones can't reach it. Ambit's on-site LTE failover keeps outbound calling available and critical numbers reachable during local outages.
On-Premise Systems
The strongest failover model. With an on-premise PBX and Ambit-hosted numbers, both outbound and inbound calls can survive an outage through your local LTE-connected failover system.
Hybrid Deployments
Cloud, on-premise, and virtualized systems under one roof require site-by-site failover design. Ambit engineers each location around its actual architecture so nothing gets left uncovered.
And wherever your phones live, every site can be equipped with dedicated cellular failover — ensuring that even if your primary internet goes down, your critical communications don’t.
We build in reliability from the start.
The Problem With Standard VoIP During an Outage
Most VoIP phone systems depend entirely on your internet connection. When that connection goes down, your phones go with it. Active calls drop. Outbound calling stops. And if someone needs to dial 911, your system may have no path to make that call.
Cloud redundancy alone does not solve this. Even if your hosted phone system stays online in the data center, your building’s phones cannot reach it without internet. From your team’s perspective, the phones are simply down.
Ambit’s cellular failover solution solves this problem at the site level.
How Ambit's Failover Works
Ambit installs a compact on-premise failover PBX paired with an LTE modem directly at your location. This local system is configured to mirror your primary phone environment — extensions, routing, dial plans, and all — so your phones have a local backup when the main system becomes unreachable.
When your primary connection fails:
Your phones switch to the local failover PBX. Outbound calls route through LTE. Critical calling continues — including 911. Your team keeps working.
The failover system is engineered specifically around your phone system architecture — whether you run a cloud-hosted PBX, an on-premise system, a virtualized deployment, or a hybrid of all three.
Outbound and Inbound Failover
Outbound Failover Outbound calling continuity is the core function of every Ambit failover deployment. Once phones are operating through the local failover PBX, outbound calls route through the LTE connection — keeping front desk phones, administrative lines, safety phones, and 911 dialing available during an outage.
Inbound Failover Inbound failover depends on your system architecture and whether Ambit hosts or controls your phone numbers. For on-premise systems where Ambit manages your numbers, smart routing can automatically redirect inbound calls to your LTE-connected failover PBX — giving you both outbound and inbound survivability.
For cloud-hosted systems, Ambit can manually forward your critical numbers to cell phones or alternate destinations during an outage, provided Ambit hosts your numbers and trunking.
K-12 Schools: A Different Survivability Requirement
For schools, failover goes beyond phone calls.
The intercom system is part of daily operations and life safety — bell schedules, classroom announcements, office-to-classroom communication, emergency notifications, lockdown messaging, and campus-wide alerts. If that system goes down during an outage, the school doesn’t just lose phones. It loses its primary internal communication infrastructure at exactly the wrong moment.
That’s why Ambit designs K-12 intercom systems as on-premise systems.
An on-premise intercom keeps the school’s internal communication path local. The intercom server, speakers, classroom devices, paging logic, and bell schedules continue operating inside the building network — without needing to reach an outside cloud server. A storm, fiber cut, carrier outage, or local network failure does not take down the intercom.
Combined with Ambit’s LTE-backed phone failover, this creates a layered survivability model for schools:
The on-premise intercom keeps internal paging and announcements working. The local failover PBX keeps outbound calling available through LTE. Ambit-controlled numbers allow smart inbound routing or manual forwarding depending on the setup.
For K-12 schools, communication failures are rarely just technical problems — they can quickly become safety, supervision, and emergency response problems. Ambit’s design addresses both layers.
Built for Environments Where Phones Are Life Safety Tools
Cellular failover is not just about business continuity. For schools, government offices, healthcare facilities, and public safety-adjacent organizations, phone availability during an outage is directly tied to emergency response.
Ambit’s failover design ensures that when the internet fails, the phones that matter most — front office lines, 911 access points, administrative phones, and campus safety devices — have a survivable path to keep calling.
Every Deployment Is Different
Ambit does not treat failover as a checkbox feature. Every customer environment is different — cloud, on-premise, virtualized, hybrid, single-site, or multi-location. Ambit engineers failover around your actual architecture, your number routing, and your operational priorities.
