Grant Assistance for K-12 Schools
Free help turning your communication needs into a fundable scope.
Ambit’s Grant Assistance Team helps districts prepare for federal school safety funding, including the COPS School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP). We give your grant writer the scope and specs for the phone, intercom and alert side of the project. We do not write or file grants. The help is free, and you are never required to buy anything from Ambit.
No cost. No obligation. Separate from our sales team.
Grants exist. Time is the problem.
Most districts know they need to modernize communication and safety systems. Finding the money takes time that IT directors, operations leaders and superintendents don’t have. A federal application involves registrations, answers to a long question set, a budget with a justification for every cost, and a deadline that arrives fast. For FY2026, the COPS Office released SVPP on June 9, 2026 and required the first filing by August 4 and the full application by August 11, about nine weeks.
We help with the part we know best: what to buy, where it goes and what it costs.
How the grant team helps
1. One quick meeting or email. We guide your team through a short set of questions about your communication and safety needs, in a 15-minute meeting or an email exchange.
2. We prepare your scope and specs. We turn your answers into a scope of work, equipment specifications, quantities and cost detail for the communication and life-safety side of the project, in a form your grant writer can use.
3. Your team writes and files. Your grant writer or grants office writes the application and files it, using our scope and specs. You keep full ownership and credit, and you decide what goes in. We can answer technical questions along the way.
Why the application stays with your district
Ambit supplies the technical side. The application itself is your district’s, because the program requires you to describe your own need, consult your own stakeholders and certify your own information (FY2026 SVPP FAQ). That includes:
Write and file the application
Writing and filing the application, including the narrative and the explanation of why you need federal assistance.
Register early
Active SAM.gov registration is required before you can use Grants.gov.
Consult stakeholders
Every application needs an assurance that it was prepared after consulting people beyond law enforcement, such as mental health professionals, teachers, principals, parents and students.
Provide the match
At least 25% in local cash, unless a limited fiscal-hardship waiver is granted.
Gather letters of support
From major partners when the project involves another agency.
Complete safety assessments
Awarded districts must conduct comprehensive school safety assessments.
Transparency you can trust
We believe in ethical, above-board help. Every participating district signs a short acknowledgment confirming:
No obligation
You are under no obligation to purchase any Ambit products or services.
Full transparency
Ambit’s Grant Assistance Team operates independently of our sales staff.
Free resource
The service is provided at no cost to your district.
No one can promise a grant. SVPP is competitive, with about 200 awards expected nationwide in FY2026.

Other funding to know about
BJA and OJJDP
The COPS FAQ says other DOJ programs, such as the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s STOP School Violence Program and OJJDP, fund different project types, such as anonymous reporting systems, threat assessment teams and training. COPS funds can’t buy those items.
State funds
Check your state education agency. Examples include Florida’s $6.4 million in recurring funds, Oregon’s Wireless Panic Alarm Grant and Connecticut’s SB 1216 funding. Alabama’s 2025 supplemental school safety appropriation (Act 2025-268) was for non-personnel safety spending and had to be spent by September 30, 2026, so ask ALSDE about the next allocation.
Department of Education
Most states’ Stronger Connections awards had to be obligated by September 30, 2026. Ask your state about Title IV-A and any extensions.
E-Rate
E-Rate does not cover voice or intercom equipment, so plan those costs from local or grant budgets. Our E-Rate guide explains what it covers.
Which Ambit solutions fit SVPP’s allowable list
SVPP’s list names communication technology, emergency alerts, panic and immediate alarm notification systems, and maps of schools. Each budget item is reviewed case by case, and the list does not name intercoms specifically, so confirm yours with the COPS Office Response Center at 800-421-6770.

A competitive DOJ grant that funds school safety measures, including technology for faster notification of law enforcement (NOFO).
Who can apply?
School districts, school boards, local and state governments, tribes and law enforcement agencies. Individual schools not operating as districts, and private schools, cannot be primary applicants (FAQ).
How much can a district receive?
Up to $500,000 in federal funds, or up to $100,000 through a microgrant (FAQ).
Do we have to match the grant?
Yes, at least 25% in local cash, unless you request a waiver. Microgrants require no match (NOFO).
Can the grant pay for intercoms, panic buttons or maps?
The FAQ lists communication technology, emergency alerts, panic and immediate alarm notification systems and maps of schools. Every item is reviewed case by case, and intercoms are not named, so confirm with the COPS Office (FAQ).
Can we buy equipment before the award?
No. Costs incurred before the award start date are not reimbursed (FAQ).

No. Ambit does not write or file grants. We give your grant writer the scope and specs for the communication and life-safety side, and your district writes and files the application.
Do we need a grant writer?
Someone at your district, or a grant writer you hire, needs to write and file the application. We provide the technical scope and specs for them to use.
Is Ambit’s help really free?
Yes. It’s free, and you are under no obligation to buy.
What if we don’t buy from Ambit?
That’s fine. Districts that use our help sign an acknowledgment that they’re not obligated.
When is the next deadline?

Does E-Rate pay for phones and intercoms?
Voice services have not been E-Rate eligible since Funding Year 2019, and intercom and paging equipment are not on the current Eligible Services List. USAC sets eligibility each year, so check the current list. See our E-Rate guide.
