SIP Trunking for Schools and Enterprises
Lower your phone bill without replacing your phone system.
Ambit is an FCC-licensed carrier. We replace aging PRI and analog lines with a digital connection to your existing phone system, port your numbers ourselves, and answer the phone 24/7 if anything goes wrong.
FCC-licensed carrier. STIR/SHAKEN token holder. ISO 9001 certified.
The connection matters as much as the phones
SIP trunking is the digital connection that carries your calls over the internet instead of dedicated PRI or analog lines. Your phones and PBX stay where they are. What changes is who carries your calls, what you pay for them, and how fast someone fixes a problem.
Many providers resell another carrier’s network. Ambit is the carrier, so one team controls the call path, ports your numbers and supports the service. Schools, cities and businesses across the Southeast run on it.
Why move your numbers to Ambit
Lower monthly costs
Districts have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in some cases more than $1 million, by moving to SIP with us.
Legacy PBX or modern VoIP, we connect to what you run today. No new handsets.
Outbound calls are authenticated under STIR/SHAKEN, and one carrier handles the 911 routing and location data that Ray Baum’s Act and NG911 compliance depends on.
Works anywhere
Hybrid, on-premise or hosted, with no disruption to your users.
A geo-redundant network with automatic failover, and cellular failover at your site when the internet goes down.
Support that answers
AmbitCare is U.S.-based and answers 24/7, with no call centers.
Stop paying a premium for legacy lines
Carriers are sunsetting PRI circuits and analog lines and raising prices on the way out. One district we work with was told five analog lines would cost $18,000 a month. SIP trunking moves those lines onto a digital connection at a fraction of that.
Porting your numbers does not have to be a nightmare
Number porting feels risky, and many organizations stay with a provider they have outgrown because switching sounds worse than staying. We port numbers in-house, and we have moved more than 30,000 of them for schools, cities and businesses, including the complicated ones. You get:
- Step-by-step updates.
- One team managing every detail.
- A clear cutover plan.
Keep your trusted numbers. Upgrade everything else.
The carrier behind your numbers
Already have a phone system? Perfect.
We will connect your system to our SIP backbone, with no rip-and-replace.
- Keep your numbers.
- Lower your monthly bills.
- Stay compliant with STIR/SHAKEN and 911 requirements.
- Get emergency-ready service with 24/7 support.
SIP trunking is the first layer
Many districts start with the carrier connection and add intercoms, 911 location and alerts later. See how one vendor works across every layer, or explore K-12 phone, intercom and 911 systems.
Ambit also serves cities and counties, higher education, healthcare and manufacturing, with the same carrier and the same support.
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers for IT directors and business owners.
What is SIP trunking?
A digital connection that carries your calls over the internet instead of PRI or analog lines, connecting your phone system to the carrier.
How much can we save?
It depends on your lines and your current contract. Districts we work with have saved hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in some cases more than $1 million. A consultation reviews your bills.
Do we need new phones or a new PBX?
No. SIP trunking works with your existing PBX, so you can change carriers without changing phones.
Can we keep our phone numbers?
Yes. We port numbers in-house.
How does 911 work on SIP trunks?
Ambit is the carrier, so 911 routing and location data are handled by one team, and we test them with 933 calls.
What if the internet goes down?
Our network is geo-redundant with automatic failover. At your site, cellular failover keeps outbound calling and 911 available during an internet outage.
Are SIP trunks eligible for E-Rate?
Voice services have not been E-Rate eligible since Funding Year 2019, and SIP trunks and PRI lines are not on the current Eligible Services List. USAC sets eligibility each year, and some related broadband and network components are treated differently, so check the current list before you build a budget. See USAC’s eligibility overview. Our E-Rate guide explains what E-Rate does cover.
