The Slow Boat from China…

…just got slower and more expensive.

It’s late October 2021 and the news of slow distribution has affected every market on the planet. Europe is experiencing slow fuel delivery to gas stations. China is experiencing low power delivery. The USA is experiencing a general truck driver shortage. It was just reported on the local news last evening that schools are experiencing food shortages in lunchrooms as a direct result of truck and driver shortages.

The laws of supply and demand are in full swing. The result of shortages means that costs are going up. Food prices are projected to rise 9 – 16%. A common fax ATA that we have used for nearly 15 years has increased from $70 to $210 in just four months! For the first time since Ambit opened its doors the price of phones has increased – 25%.

Not only is there a shortage of products, there is a shortage of people to deliver, install, and support those products. Ambit has seen entry-level wages increase 30% since the first of the year.

The result of all these increases is above normal inflation. The cost of just keeping the doors open is rising much faster than normal. Ambit has traditionally grown 25 – 50% annually and used our larger presence in the market to pass along savings to our customers. Ambit has kept pricing nearly the same for 15 years straight. Unfortunately, 2021 will be the year we have to break the streak. We have not finalized our increases yet, but we did want to alert our customers that the inevitable is coming in the next 30 to 90 days. As always, Ambit will continue to provide the greatest value for the money in the telecom market.
